I was born in New York City and lived there from 1946 thru '52, and again from 1969 thru 1978. That adds up to about 15 of my nearly 70 years.
Despite much of my lifetime spent elsewhere, I still think of myself as a
New Yorker when an arrogant, antisocial twerp like Ted Cruz insults the
city of my birth with his misguided comment about New York Values.
It's like when Massachusetts-born John F. Kennedy said in Berlin in 1963, "Ich bin ein Berliner." (I am a Berliner.) Technically, a "berliner" is a filled pastry, like a hole-less doughnut, but JFK apparently did not know that.
